The latest edition of the Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is ready for listening. This is the 150th edition of the show, and so I have a special theme to mark the occasion. The first episode was broadcast on the now defunct Dividing Line Broadcast Network in January, 2014. Since then, the show has regularly gone out every two weeks with the one exception of a bonus show done in honor of the passing of Chris Squire. My thanks once again go to Shawn Bishop and the good folk at The Dividing Line for giving me the opportunity to raid my archives and deliver prog to whoever was willing to hear it. About a year and half ago, I think, The Dividing Line closed shop and I found a new home for the show at PodOmatic. Long may it continue. And “long” is the order of the day for this show. To celebrate the longevity of this podcast, I have created an all-epics program. More than anything else, what is associated with progressive rock is the epic-length composition. I put some thought into what makes an epic in prog. Every piece of music on this show is at least 15 minutes duration, the 15 to go with show 150. But an epic is more than just long. Therefore, I did not select any long jam sessions or formless electronic pieces. An epic is not just long, but it also tells a story in sound. It changes mood, register, tempo, and volume to take the listener on a journey of sound. Therefore, these are all pieces meant to be heard as one piece of music, not suites linked by segues. So, get ready for 10 adventures in sound as Sound Chaser #150 pursues the epic.
